August 26 drive to Northeast Harbor, Mount Desert Island
The four of us head off to deliver Rod and Nancy back to their boat in Northeast Harbor.  We got caught up on all the news with Nancy in the back seat reading to us.  We spent a considerable amount of time discussing the New Hampshire’s St Paul School's alleged Senior Salute rape case involving Owen Labrie.  We talked also of everyones concern for their daughter’s current challenge of climbing the tallest mountain in Kashmir.

I wanted very much to visit Acadia National Park and now it looked like we would do just that….not by boat but still.  Traveling to and arriving in the area was scenic at every turn.  We stopped at the Asticou Inn for a nice lunch and learned that Rod and Nancy came here on their honeymoon 40 + years ago!  After lunch Nancy convinced (which she is very good at) Rod and Harry to take all the boat provisions on down to the marina while she and I toured the nearby gardens.  So off we went after lunch, just ‘the girls’…and maybe 5 minutes into our ‘girls day out’ it starts to POUR!

Even with our rain jackets we are soaked and rush back to the Asticou Inn to call 'the guys' to come and get us!!  damn it!  Puny cell phone connections in Maine so we were not successful in reaching them but in about 10 minutes they pulled up out front reading our minds that we may need them.

So we arrive at the marina and just as we’re pulling in their friends Joan and Claude arrive and will travel for 3-4 days with them as they head back to Portsmouth.  The downpour has ceased so once again Nancy convinces Rod and Harry and Claude to take all the provisions to the boat while she and Joan and I found a cup of tea in the tiny, cute town in Northeast Harbor.

Upon our return to the marina Harry and I headed off to the other side of Mount Desert to spend the night in a place there, and the other 4 were driving over later to meet up for dinner in Southwest Harbor at Red Sky.  Our place, the Dry Dock Inn was very quaint and just around the corner was the dinner place.  Such a nice evening out with great folks.

And it’s funny that that evening while trying to sleep in a very noisy room i felt like i was having this claustrophobic event….i felt trapped like i  could not get out of the room - and it seemed so small.  Many have asked if i ever felt like that on the boat and i never have but that night was weird and i wanted to get a lot of sleep to be ready to see/hike Acadia the next day.  oh well, not sure what that was all about…
